How to say a proper (and secure) farewell to your old mobile

Out with the old, and in with the new

For many of us the annual renewal of our mobile phone contract means the chance to change and more often than not upgrade our handset. The lovely shiny new device we took delivery of just 12 months earlier is already dated it seems. There are already bigger, better, faster, sharper, shinier options that our phone provider can deliver to us in record time, in exchange for just a few more pounds per month!

With a new handset comes the question of what to do with your old one – sell it? Pass it down to a family member? Trade it in with your mobile provider? Throw it away?

Ensure your photos live happily ever after this Valentine's Day

Love is in the air

On average 220,000 marriage proposals take place every Valentine’s Day, that’s around 10% of all proposals that will occur this year.

If you’re due to say ‘I DO’ this year or even next, you’ll no doubt be busy looking and thinking about the venue, dresses/suits, guest list, honeymoon, colour schemes, flowers, first dance, cake, car, rings… PHOTOGRAPHS!

I don’t know where photographs are on your Wedding ‘To Do’ List but our advice would be to have it near the top. Aside from your memories, photographs will be the best, and perhaps only, way to share your big day with people in years to come…your children… your grandchildren. So you could argue that photos will in fact be the most important thing on your wedding day.

New Year, New Year’s Resolutions – the photographic kind!

New Year, New Year’s Resolutions – the photographic kind!

So what does 2018 have in store for you? Holidays? A wedding? A big birthday? A new arrival? A house move? Unforgettable events and special moments, never to be repeated, unless of course you capture them on a camera.

Gone are the days when taking a photograph was a big deal and almost a special occasion in itself – who remembers the days of checking to see how many photos were left on the film, using disposable flash bulbs and posting off your camera film and patiently waiting weeks for your developed photographs to come back – often to find you hadn’t captured what you’d hoped/intended!

'Tis the season to take lots of photos...

Nativity plays, work Christmas parties, family gatherings, New Years’ eve celebrations, baby’s first Christmas… the holiday season is almost upon us and photo opportunities will be aplenty.

Magical moments are captured in the blink of an eye but alas can be lost just as quickly if you fail to look after your camera, and more importantly your SD card.

Device management and data protection advice for action camera adventurers

Action cameras have become a must-have for adrenalin junkies worldwide. On land or sea, in the air or on the ground, more and more people are participating in extreme sports, and thanks to devices such as GoPro their adventures (and antics) are being captured for all to see.
Despite their tough exterior, action cameras are electronic devices and are therefore prone to failing, often in unexpected ways. So whilst an action camera will survive (physically) being dropped from a great height, the data stored inside your device may not escape unscathed.

Smartphone + Water = :-(

Smartphone + Water = :-(

In days gone by a mobile phone was simply a portable telephone that allowed us to make and receive calls away from home, and were often only used in the case of an ‘emergency’. Oh how times have changed!

Nowadays we wouldn’t dream of going anywhere (not even to the loo for some – hold that thought!) without our smartphone. Being without your smartphone doesn’t bear thinking about as it’s no longer just a phone… it’s your camera, your photo album, your navigator, your itinerary… your world!

What to do when man’s best friend gets the munchies, or should we say the data crunchies!

We love our pets and there’s nothing cuter than seeing an adorable puppy chewing and wrestling with something, until you realise that ‘something’ isn’t his favourite chew toy but your mobile phone, USB or some other electronic device.

31st March is World Backup Day - Back up your data today and don’t be a fool tomorrow

Posted by ELC on 3/31/2017 to News

FACT: We’ve created more information in the last two years than in the entirety of recorded history. That’s an awful lot of photos, memories, and important documents.

In this modern day most of us own a computer (83% in fact) and a mobile phone (89%) which make creating and capturing data quick and easy. It is equally quick and easy to back up our precious data and preserve our memories, yet only 1 in 4 of us regularly back up our data.

Data recovery – can you do it yourself or do you need expert help?

As a home business owner if you were asked to name your most valued assets, things like equipment, technology, transportation, stock and perhaps your business partner, would spring to mind, but I wonder how many of us would think to put data on the list?

Is your head in the clouds when it comes to data protection and recovery?

Posted by KH on 2/15/2017 to News

Data loss, whether short or long-term, can be crippling to the day-to-day operations of an organisation which is why having a robust data protection and recovery plan in place is of paramount importance.

Formal plans should address a) how company data is kept secure, and b) how data will be recovered in the event of loss.
